Emilia is a Broadcom Masters Semifinalist!

Congratulations to FSMN alumna Emilia Topp-Johnson (Class of 2014) who has been named a Broadcom Masters semifinalist. Last year, Emi researched corn fungus for her science fair project at Friends School of Minnesota (see previous post Emi’s Science Fair Project Wins!). Well Done, Noah Rice!

FSMN 7th grader Noah Rice swam in the Long Course State Championship Swim Meet at the U of M aquatic center in mid July. In the 11-12 year old boys division, he took 3rd place in the 50- and 100 meter-freestyle events and the 50 meter butterfly. The Collins-Fieldseth Award for Exceptional Volunteerism 2013-2014

Friends School of Minnesota volunteers are amazing! They serve on committees, care for our community, run our gala, assist in after school activities, chaperone field trips, run the Friends School Plant Sale, support students’ reading, take photographs, work in the library, and serve in countless other ways to support the school. Engineering Club – Solar Boat Regatta

Seventeen 7th and 8th graders joined the Friends School of Minnesota Engineering Club. Advisor Steve Moe (middle school science teacher) worked with students to build a solar boat to race in the Minnesota Solar Regatta in May. The Minnesota Solar Regatta is an annual event sponsored by the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society. Teams participating in the Solar Regatta build or modify a working boat (large enough to carry one student pilot) to compete in.. State History Day Results

Great results this Saturday at State History Day. We had 12 of our 7/8th graders compete at the state level. Ten went on to the second round of judging. Emi’s Science Fair Project Wins!

Friends School of Minnesota 8th grader Emi Topp-Johnson’s project on corn fungus qualified for the State Science Fair, which took place over spring break. Emi’s display won a Bronze Star from the Minnesota Academy of Science (the organization that runs the state science fair), for being in the top 20% of all middle school projects.
