Friends School of Minnesota welcomed back Jae Haile Phillips and Hannah Esparza for a dance residency the during the week of October 19-23. Students in kindergarten through 8th grade learned a different social dance each day. They explored Merengue, Bachata, Salsa, and Hip Hop.
Students had the opportunity to work through basic dance moves and practiced incorporating those steps into a more intricate routine by the end of class. As they grew in their confidence, some naturally stepped into a leadership role as they experienced dancing socially with a partner and also dancing alone during the hip hop routine.
Jai and Hannah demonstrated these different dances and students were able to discern between them, as their steps and syncopated moves are slightly different.
We had a great week and look forward to inviting Jai and Hannah back to Friends School of Minnesota in the future. We heard stories that some of the kids came home to show their families some of the moves!
