Friends School of Minnesota students are loving our new art room! This past month, 5th and 6th graders worked on their drawing, painting and observational skills while creating a series of drawings of an object of their choice. Middle school students have art two times a week for 45 minutes.
Friends School of Minnesota 5th and 6th graders are making full use of our new art room.
Fifth and sixth graders worked on contour drawings of various natural and manmade objects during their twice weekly art class.
Mira works on a contour drawing, paying attention to edges and shapes of the butterfly. Students first drew a blind contour of their object. Then they did a “partial peek” drawing. This allowed them to really focus on the object (rather than worrying about their drawing) and get to know it before doing a final contour drawing.
Phil works on his contour drawing of scissors.
Charlie makes a contour drawing of his tennis shoe.
Once they completed their contour drawing, students could add watercolor.
