Congratulations to FSMN alumna Emilia Topp-Johnson (Class of 2014) who has been named a Broadcom Masters semifinalist. Last year, Emi researched corn fungus for her science fair project at Friends School of Minnesota (see previous post Emi’s Science Fair Project Wins!). Now a ninth grader at St. Paul Academy and Summit School, she is continuing her independent research in their Advanced Science Research laboratory.
Broadcom Masters is the middle school level of the Intel Science Talent Search and honors students for outstanding independent scientific research. Emilia is one of 300 students of 6000 entries nationwide to be named a semifinalist; she will learn in mid-September about the next phase of the competition, which selects 30 finalists to attend an event in Washington, D.C. Go, Emilia!
