Three Friends School of Minnesota alumni took to the stage on November 22 and 23, 2013, as part of St. Paul Academy‘s production of Bertolt Brecht’s Caucasian Chalk Circle. Written in 1944 and first performed at Carleton College, this dark and complex play is ultimately a fable about land ownership told through a dispute over parentage of a child.
In the play, set to original music, Evan Leduc (FSMN Class of 2011), one of the main characters and vocalists, played a soldier torn from his girlfriend to serve in a meaningless war.

Ingrid Topp-Johnson (FSMN Class of 2012) played the comic role of a noblewoman fleeing the conflict.

Riley Wheaton (Class of 2012) played a soldier abused and demeaned by a sadistic sergeant. Riley noted that while the large cast (38 actors) struggled with the dark and sometimes violent tone of the play and the challenging vocals, the play came together beautifully at the end and everyone felt good about how it had gone.

St. Paul Academy will produce one acts in the winter and a musical in the spring, and all three Friends School of Minnesota alumni will likely take the stage again. The productions are free to the public an all are welcome!
