Friends School of Minnesota was selected as one of two sites in the country to pilot a program of the Friends General Conference and the Friends Council on Education. The program is called “Exploring Together” and has three goals:

  1. For Quaker meetings to strengthen ways of welcoming and bringing newcomers into the life of the meeting
  2. For Friends schools to give parents, faculty, and staff a chance to explore Quaker experience with people in the meeting
  3. For the meeting and school to strengthen their relationship

On Saturday Oct 12, about 23 people from two Quaker meetings (Minneapolis Friends Meeting, and Twin Cities Friends Meeting) and Friends School of Minnesota spent the day at a workshop facilitated by staff from the Friends General Conference and the Friends Council on Education. Participants got to know one another, learned about commonalities, and thought about ways to be welcoming toward all in our respective organizations. We discussed what it means to be Quaker and/or a Quaker organization.

It was a great success. Several participants remarked on the workshop’s success at bringing the three groups together to talk, think, and be!

On March 8 there will be an “Exploring Together” event at Twin Cities Friends Meeting. All Friends School of Minnesota families will be invited and it will be an excellent way to learn more about Quakerism and Quaker meeting. Stay tuned!
