Each year, Friends School of Minnesota seventh and eighth graders spend a week at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center in Finland, Minnesota. We do this trip to learn about the natural environment of the area and to build community among ourselves. This year, I got to accompany students along with three staff and four parent chaperones.

Monday evening we moved in to our Wolf Ridge dorms, ate dinner, and had an astronomy class out under the stars. With two serious telescopes and dark skies, we were able to observe many stars and some planets. Students chose a star they named the “Alex Star”.
Tuesday morning we started our classes. We are in three groups and my group did the high ropes course. It is amazing to see the students support each other through the course (and me!) Other groups did the Lake Study and Wetlands classes.
I look forward to the rest of the week!
