Friends School of Minnesota 5th and 6th graders made their second to last field trip of the school year to Coldwater Spring on April 26th. Students went on a series of monthly field trips to various locations along the Mississippi as part of the 5/6 interdisciplinary unit about the Mississippi river.
This was the first year of many years in which Friends School of Minnesota hopes to document changes happening through the prairie restoration process at Coldwater Spring, a new national historic site and part of the National Park system.
Behind these Friends School of Minnesota 5th and 6th graders is a mountain of full sized buckthorn! Students worked with National park rangers, volunteers, and the Mississippi River Fund to haul the trees to a site where it can be carried away and burned for fuel in downtown St Paul.
