Friends School of Minnesota 5th and 6th graders went on a half-day field trip to the Coldwater Spring site of the Mississippi River National Park on Thursday, October 18th. The excursion was part of the 5/6th grade river unit.
Students met with the National Park Service project manager to hear the history of the newly opened site.
They took photos and made drawings of the prairie and oak savannah to document the early stages of this major habitat restoration area.
Students also participated in a service project for the Mississippi River Fund by mulching over 100 newly planted oak trees.
We look forward to returning to the Coldwater Spring site to watch the area return to oak savanna prairie!
