Block structures are an important part of my 3rd & 4th grade classroom. We have two building areas in the Bayou classroom and they are busy places all year long.
We invested in Kapla blocks last year – and by invested, I mean we acquired 900 of them! Each pine Kapla block is identical, with dimensions in the ratio of 1:3:15; i.e., 1 unit high, 3 units wide and 15 units long.
It is amazing to see the various buidings, ships, communities and towers that have been built over the year. The photos below are only a small representation of the many structures built over the year.
Not only does building with Kapla blocks encourage creativity and cooperative work, it also supports mathmatical thinking… as well as an occasional lesson in physics.
