Middle school advisories paired up to sponsor three large Twin Cities families in need by purchasing Christmas gifts for them. We worked with Twin Cities Catholic Charities Sponsor a Family program.

Each advisory got a list of family members with the wants and needs. Students brought in money to contribute to the gifts. They created a budget for each family member based on how much money they were able to contribute, and took time to pick out thoughtful gifts. Then each advisory took an after school field trip  to go shopping for their family.  Some students also brought in gifts or gift cards on their own.

The middle school student council boxed and wrapped all the gifts.

When reflecting on the experience, Lauren, a seventh grader, said, “It was fun to help someone in need.  Many of them are kids just like us.”  Alex, a sixth grader said, “It was fun to pick out gifts for Pierre, because we have the same interests.”
